Location reference and attributes are customisable fields you add to templates and projects to capture specific details about a location. They help operatives find exactly where they need to work, support reporting, and you can manage them in bulk—both through a CSV import and on the web.
This article covers how to set them up, how they behave on mobile, how to bulk edit and import them, and how they show up in reporting.
Setting up in a project template
If you reuse the same location information across projects, set up location attributes in a project template.
Within the template, you can:
Add the relevant details to different attribute types.
Decide whether the attribute information shows on the public QR code page for the project. You'll still need to switch on the public QR code page once you've created the project from the template.
Choose which location attributes appear on which form within that project and whether they are required or not. This helps when different teams carry out different types of work on site. For example an operative using a surveying form who is adding location information through the attributes when they create a new location will need to make sure that the right information is added, but the operatives going back to location will arrive to that
Add a location attribute to a template, and it'll appear automatically in any new projects created from that template.
Setting up in a project
Not working from a template? Set up location attributes directly within an individual project.
Enabling location reference
Go to Project setup in the top right of your screen.
Select Locations from the dropdown.
Use the toggle to enable Location reference.
Once enabled, switch it on for each form where you want it to appear:
Still in Project setup, select Forms from the left-hand sidebar.
Choose the active form you want to update.
Go to Form settings, then Advanced options.
Click Edit and switch on the Location reference field.
Click Save & publish to push the changes live to your operatives.
Adding location attributes
Attributes let operatives add further detail to a location—either by typing it in or selecting from preloaded options, which cuts down on human error.
Go to Project setup in the top right of your screen.
Select Locations from the dropdown.
Click Add attribute.
Choose an attribute type from the list.
Add the name and options, then click Add attribute to save.
Location attributes help operatives find exactly where they need to work. On single-site projects without drawings, and on multi-site projects, they stand alone as the main way to pinpoint a job. On single-site projects with drawings, they work alongside pins—adding extra detail to the visual location shown on the drawing.
Bulk importing locations via CSV
Got a large number of locations to set up? Bulk import location data via CSV instead of adding attributes one by one.
This works well for:
Single-site projects without drawings, where locations are managed by reference and attribute data alone.
Multi-site projects, which won't have drawings and instead rely on location attributes to organise and identify individual sites.
Bulk importing lets you populate location references and attributes for these project types in one step, saving time on manual entry.
How location attributes appear on mobile
Location references and attributes add structured location information to a job sheet. This detail appears at the top of the job sheet when an operative starts work, confirming exactly where the job is taking place.
If the location's already set up, the fields populate automatically.
If it's new, the operative can fill in the fields on-site.
Text location attributes are also searchable in the mobile app when operatives are finding a location to start work—as long as the large text input option is turned off for that attribute.
Bulk editing location attributes on web
Once you've set up locations and attributes, bulk edit them on the web from the Locations tab of a project. This lets you update attribute values across multiple locations at once, rather than editing each one individually.
Location attributes in reporting
Location attributes can also feed into your report summary page, where certain attribute types are aggregated to show a breakdown of number and percentage per attribute.
To include location attributes in a report summary:
Enable the toggle to include location attributes.
(Optional) Choose whether to include locations with no attributes attached.
Select which attributes to include by clicking Select attributes.
💡 Can't see the Select attributes button? Your attributes are probably text or number type.
